Peanut allergy – symptoms

Peanut allergy is a type of food allergy. The substances from peanuts causes an overreaction of the immune system which may lead to severe physical symptoms for many people. Anaphylaxis is a result to a severe peanut allergies, this situation requiring immediate attention and treatment with epinephrine.

Other allergies: half of people hwo are allergic to peanuts are also allergic to tree nuts, such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, and often sunflower and sesame seeds.


Symptoms of peanut allergy:

* vomiting
* diarrhea
* urticaria (hives)
* angioedema (swelling of the lips, face, throat and skin)
* acute abdominal pain
* exacerbation of atopic eczema
* asthma
* anaphylactic shock

Treatment

There is no cure for peanut allergy but you can use this medication: antihistamines can be taken after exposure and allergic reaction to peanuts, of people hwo have peanut allergy. Also, auto-injectable epinephrine is used like a response to anaphylaxis.
