Milk allergy – symptoms and treatment

Cow’s milk allergy is one of the most usual in early childhood and occurs when the immune system it’s activated against one or more of the proteins found in milk (casein, caseinate, butter flavor, lactic acid) . Milk it’s a substance very rich in proteins ; normally the immune system doesn’t react againts milk proteins, but in some cases it considers that some proteins are harmfull for the body and it provokes skin rash, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fainting, dizziness and distress. One way to treat milk allergy is total avoidance of milk in your diet, or you can use symptomatic therapy.
Some alternatives for substituting cow milk are: rice milk, soy milk, oat milk , roundnut milk, but these types of milk aren’t appropriate for infants diet.
Food that may contain milk protein:
any type of chocolate, butter, margarine, pasta, biscuits, donuts, ice cream, cheese, cottage cheese. Ingredients that indicate the presence of milk are: casein, caseinate,lactalbumin,lactoglobulin,
lactose, whey, whey powder.
Symptomatic treatment consists in using medication like epinephrine (available as EpiPen or Twinject) . Using these medication you can decrease the allergic reactions , breath properly and eliminate other reactions causes by milk allergy.
Even if milk is a essential source of calcium and Vitamin D,having a milk allergy doesn’t mean you can’t find other tasty substitutes product like broccoli, spinach and soy.
